Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Diagnostic criteria for PD is based on primary dysmenorrhea consensus guideline (2017) ; 2. TCM diagnostic of cold congelation and blood stasis syndrome: Main symptoms: cramping pain in the lower abdomen occurring just before or during menstruation; pain relieved by heat. Secondary symptoms: low menstrual flow; dark menstrual color with blood clots; pale face; cold limbs. Tongue and pulse: dark purple tongue or tongue with black spots, covered with white coating, string pulse, or sinking tight pulse; 3. Age between 15-35 years old; 4. Normal menstrual cycle (28 7 days), menstrual period 3~7 days; 5. Menstrual pain score (VAS) 4; 6. No other relevant treatment has been received within 1 month before entering the study; 7. No organic changes in the internal and external genitalia; 8. Able to comply with the intervention and agree not to receive other relevant treatments during the period of treatment; 9. Volunteer for the study and agree to sign an informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Secondary dysmenorrhea is caused by endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, pelvic inflammation, and other gynecologic diseases; 2. Pregnant, or preparing for pregnant or lactating women; 3. The patient has taken painkillers or received other relieving pain therapy in the past 2 weeks before entering the study; 4. Allergic constitution, allergy to Chinese medicines, or skin disorders; 5. Patients with complicated diseases such as cardiovascular, liver, and kidney diseases, or patients with infectious diseases; 6. Involved with mental illness; 7.Patients with poor compliance (e.g. cant complete a dysmenorrhea questionnaire, cant understand the purpose of the study, difficult follow-up); 8. Patients with irregular periods or missed periods.
