Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Inclusion criteria for MHE: meeting the MHE diagnostic criteria and TCM evidence-based diagnostic criteria of the Chinese Medical Association Liver Diseases Branch 2018 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cirrhosis and Hepatic Encephalopathy; age 18-65 years; informed consent obtained and volunteered for the trial; 2. Post-hepatitis cirrhosis inclusion criteria: according to the Chinese Medical Association Liver Diseases Branch 2019 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Liver Cirrhosis; age 18-65 years; 3. Healthy volunteers inclusion criteria: healthy controls were all healthy physical examiners with the same sex and age ratios as the MHE group, who were assessed to be free of substantial lesions of major organ systems such as heart, brain, liver, kidney and lung after medical history questioning, physical examination and physical and chemical examinations such as chest X-ray, blood and urine routine, blood glucose, liver and kidney function; aged 18-65 years.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Exclusion criteria for the MHE group: past or current hepatic encephalopathy; psychosomatic or neurological disorders; sedatives or central nervous system depressants within the last 4 weeks; alcoholic cirrhosis with continued alcohol abuse; gastrointestinal bleeding within the last 2 weeks; disorders of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance due to diuretic use within the last 2 weeks; body temperature above 37.5?; concomitant severe cardiac, pulmonary, cerebral and renal diseases; Those with severe diabetic complications; illiterate, semi-literate (interference with neuropsychological testing) and uncooperative; 2. Post-hepatitis cirrhosis exclusion criteria: Patients with cirrhosis in which the hepatitis virus is active; patients with progressive hepatocellular carcinoma at the time of enrolment; history of other malignancies; history of other types of liver disease; history of severe alcohol abuse (> 20 g/day) or autoimmune hepatitis; illiterate, semi-literate and uncooperative individuals; 3. Exclusion criteria for healthy controls: illiterate, semi-literate and uncooperative persons.
