Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: those presenting with retrosternal stagnation or dysphagia after eating, or asymptomatic patients with abnormal oesophageal masses on gastroscopy, with a post-surgical pathological diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus. Corresponding normal epithelial tissue of the esophagus adjacent to cancer. Pre-cancerous tissue of the esophagus confirmed by pathology in post-operative specimens with squamous cell carcinoma.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Esophagitis, benign tumors of the esophagus, hiatal hernia, varices of the esophagus and other conditions causing similar symptoms to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
