Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Rectal cancer (located below peritoneal reflection); 2. Preoperative MRI showed that the short diameter of rectal lymph nodes is >= 10mm; 3. Indications for laparoscopic surgery; 4. Non-multiple primary or recurrent cancer; 5. No preoperative chemoradiotherapy; 6. No distant metastasis; 7. No intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation and other complications.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation and other complications which require emergency surgery; 2. Recurrent or multiple primary colorectal cancer; 3. Contraindications for laparoscopic surgery; 4. Lateral metastatic lymph nodes invaded the piriformis muscle, sacral plexus nerve or circumvented external iliac arteriovenous; 5. Patients with lateral lymph node metastasis accompanied by distant metastasis could not achieve R0 resection; 6. The primary tumor could not be resected with R0; 7. There was extensive lateral and retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis.
