Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: For schizophrenia patients: (1) Meet the diagnosis of schizophrenia (DSM-5); (2) Age 18-70, both gender; (3) Having antipsychotic treatment for at least 3 months (allow for combination with mood stabilizers, anti-anxiety medications, antidepressants, and benzodiazepines); (4) The patient and his/her guardian signed the informed consent. For healthy controls: (1) Meet no diagnosis of mental disorders (DSM-5); (2) Meet no diagnosis of metabolic syndrome or suffering metabolic disorders; (3) Age- and gender-matched with schizophrenia patients; (4) Signed the informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: For schizophrenia patients: (1) Pregnant or lactating women; (2) Severe heart and kidney insufficiency and other basic diseases; (3) Organic mental disorders and mental disorders caused by psychoactive substances and non-addictive substances; (4) Used antibiotics, probiotics and other drugs affecting intestinal flora in the last month; (5) The living environment or dietary conditions have changed dramatically within the last month; (6) Experienced significant diarrhea or constipation within the last month; (7) Infectious disease within the last month; (8) With infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B, syphilis, AIDS, etc. For healthy controls: (1) Pregnant or lactating women; (2) Severe heart and kidney insufficiency and other basic diseases; (3) Used antibiotics, probiotics and other drugs affecting intestinal flora in the last month; (4) The living environment or dietary conditions have changed dramatically within the last month; (5) Experienced significant diarrhea or constipation within the last month; (6) Infectious disease within the last month; (7) With infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B, syphilis, AIDS, etc.
