Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. All patients >= 18 years of age 10 breaths/minute; PaO2> 60mmHg; inhaled oxygen concentration (FIO2) 7.30); no severe hemodynamic instability (i.e., no need for orephrine or dopamine pumped at rates less than 0.5 µg/kg/h); no severe bronchospasm (end-inspiratory resistance( Rmin) measured during controlled ventilation <20 cmH2O/l/sec); and stable neurological status (stable neurological state is defined as unnecessary: 1) severe sedation to control intracranial pressure, 2) any intervention within the first 24 hours to reduce intracranial pressure to normal (= 12 cmH2O) or to manage any central nervous system-related events (i.e., seizures))
