Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ICU patient inclusion criteria: 1. age >= 18 years; 2. expected duration of ICU stay >= 72h 30 healthy volunteers will also be recruited as controls. Inclusion criteria. 1. age >= 18 years; 2. no previous history of gastrointestinal surgery or disease.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: ICU patient exclusion criteria: 1. Age <18 years; 2. Previous gastrointestinal surgery or admission to ICU for gastrointestinal surgery; 3. Pregnant women; 4. Patient or family refusal to undergo ultrasound; 5. Unavailability of sinus ultrasound images Controls group exclusion criteria: 1. Age <18 years; 2. Previous gastrointestinal surgery or admission to ICU for gastrointestinal surgery; 3. Pregnant women; 4. Patient or family refusal to undergo ultrasound; 5. Unavailability of sinus ultrasound images
