18 Years to 85 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult patients waiting for elective heart surgery who are willing and able to give informed consent to participate in the study; 2. In sinus rhythm and not taking any antiarrhythmic drugs (other than beta-adrenergic blockers) at the time of surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History of obstructive hepatobiliary disease or other serious liver disease. 2. Untreated hypothyroidism. 3. Creatinine >200 umol/L. 4. Personal and family history of inherited muscle disorders. 5. Severe mitral valve disease (moderate or severe mitral regurgitation - e.g. > Grade II, and/or mitral stenosis and mitral ring calcification). 6. Patients receiving any antiarrhythmic medication (except beta-adrenergic blockers). 7. Intraaortic balloon support or aneurysm resection is required.
