Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria were as follows: 1. patients diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition; 2. patients who resided in the institution for psychiatric rehabilitation throughout the research period (at least 3 months); 3. patients with ages between 20 and 65 years; 4. patients who were able to listen to, speak; 5. Patients who can write Mandarin or Taiwanese.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria: 1. patients with cognitive impairment, alcoholism, brain injury, mental retardation, personality disorders; 2. allergies to or fears of dogs.
