Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 18 - 85 years; 2. Meets sepsis 3.0 criteria (sepsis is defined as infection within the first 24 hours + SOFA >= 2 points); 3. One admission to ICU and expected to survive within the first 48 hours; 4. Informed consent signed by patient or immediate family member (or legal representative); 5. The rectus femoris muscle cross-sectional area (RFCSA) was measured repeatedly after admission to ICU until the RFCSA decreased by more than 9.24% compared with the first measurement.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Confirmed pregnancy or positive urine ß-HCG test; 2. Due to cognitive abnormalities, the questionnaire (MRC-SS, FIM) could not be completed; 3. Newly diagnosed primary neuromuscular disease upon admission; 4. Patients with leg amputation, pelvis/femur fracture, or knee/hip replacement who cannot complete RFCSA measurements; 5. Malnutrition (BMI less than 16.5 kg/m^2) or cachexia; 6. Patients with metastatic tumor (PD) or undergoing chemotherapy; 7. Patients receiving long-term corticosteroid therapy; 8. Patients who cannot walk independently before the onset of sepsis; 9. Length of ICU stay < 7 days; 10. Sepsis has occurred 5 days before admission to ICU; 11. Gastrointestinal surgery or other inoperable conditions.
