Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age >65 years old; 2. Elective surgery; 3. Require mechanical ventilation under general anesthesia; 4. Expected anesthesia time over 3 h; 5. Informed consent acquired; 6. Without audio or visual disabilities.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Neural system diseases such as acute stroke, Alzheimer's disease, history of neurosurgery, Parkinson's disease; 2. Severe cardiac insufficiency (NYHA III or IV); 3. Severe respiratory insufficiency e.g. severe COPD or oxygenation index 35; 5. Surgery and mechanical ventilation treatment in the last 2 weeks; 6. Long-term use of sedatives, antidepressants, alcohol or drug abuse, etc. 7. Intraoperative anticholinergic agents such as atropine.
