Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Participants who were diagnosed with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke; 2. Are aged 18 years or over; 3. Without a self-reported history of depression before the stroke; 4. Depressive symptoms should occur after stroke, a positive diagnosis of depression will be established when the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score is over 10.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Participants who were diagnosed as dementia prior to the stroke; 2. Have suffered from severe depressive disorder before the stroke; 3. Were receiving treatment (medical or psychological interventions) for depression at the time at which they had their stroke; 4. Have communication difficulties (cognitive impairment, visual or hearing impairments) that would impact on their capacity to take part in this study.
