Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Pain in the foot below the metatarsal head, atrophy of the fat pad as diagnosed by a foot and ankle specialist, and a 6-month interval after any surgical intervention or steroid injection into the foot.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (hemoglobin A1c level >7.0%), open ulcers, infections (including osteomyelitis), systemic diseases that make fat collection and injection unsafe for patients; 2. Pregnant; 3. Known coagulation disorders and tobacco use in the past 12 months.
