Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: all 18 to 80-year-old outpatients undergoing for open-access unsedated colonoscopy for routine indications were considered eligible to enter the study. In the scenarios if the maximum pain score of the patients were more than 5 (by the 11-point visual analog scale, with 0-no pain and 10-most severe pain imaginable), or the level of technical difficulty of the procedure as level 3 (subjectively rated by the endoscopists as 1=easy, 2= slightly difficult and 3=extremely difficult) when advancing the scope into the colon, patients are automatically included in this study.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. poor bowel preparation (BBPS<6); 2. severe heart or lung disease; 3. Acute gastrointestinal bleeding; 4. History of colon resection; 5. severe colon stricture or obstructing tumor; 6. current pregnancy; 7. hemodynamic instability; 8. inability to provide informed consent.
