Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery; 2.Aged 65 or above; 3.American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I to III.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with previous history of mental illness or scored less than 27 on the baseline Mini Mental State examination before operation; 2.Patients weighing < 40 kg; 3.Patients with severe cardiac arrhythmias; 4.Patients with symptomatic cerebrovascular disease (e.g., prior stroke) with residual deficit; 5.Patients with renal failure (serum creatinine more than 2 mg dl-1); 6.Liver function tests more than 1.5 times the upper limit of normal; 7.Patients scheduled to be admitted to ICU after surgery; 8.Inability to cooperate with research for any reason, e.g.: difficulty understanding language, mental illness.
