Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Idiopathic scoliosis; 2. Aged 10–17 years; 3. Initial Cobb angle of 10–50 degree; 4. Available spinal radiographs before and after the 6-month PSSE treatment; 5. Available initial spinal radiographs for at most 1 month before commencing PSSE; 6. Skeletal maturity lower than Risser stage 5; 7. No spinal orthotic treatment before and during the PSSE treatment; 8. Once-monthly supervised PSSE during the study period to review the performed exercise.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Diagnoses other than AIS; 2. Reported hypermobility on initial assessment (Beighton score >=4) [13]; 3. Reported adherence to any other conservative treatmentincluding orthotics; chiropractic treatment; alternative therapeutic exercises other than the Schroth method; spinal traction; and traditional Chinese treatments, such as massage or acupunctureduring the study period; 4. Atypical curve pattern such as a left thoracic or right lumbar curve [14]. In particular, the second exclusion criterion was set to control systematic bias from hypermobility possibly favoring a single curve type and influencing the effects of physiotherapy [15].
