Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 18-60 years old; 2. Meet the diagnostic criteria of depressive episode according to the fourth edition of American Diagnostic Statistical Manual of mental disorders (DSM-IV); 3. Hamilton Depression Scale 17 item (HAMD-17) score >= 17; Or patients with suicidal symptom; 4. Taking SSRI antidepressants or not taking antidepressants; Not take antiepileptic drugs within 2 weeks, such as topiramate, lamotrigine, valproic acid, etc; 5. Clinicians recommend ECT treatment and sign the informed consent for ECT treatment; 6. The type of antidepressants remained unchanged during the treatment. The dose was adjusted individually according to the clinical situation; 7. ASA grade 1; 8. All subjects sign the informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Pregnant women, children and elderly patients; 2. Malnutrition and severe physical condition; 3. Patients with psychoactive substance abuse; Antiepileptic drugs such as topiramate, lamotrigine and valproic acid were taken within 2 weeks; 4. Allergic to anesthetics and muscle relaxants; 5. Severe brain diseases and physical diseases which are not suitable for ECT treatment.
