Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged >18 years old; 2. Meet the diagnostic criteria of severe pneumonia: severe pneumonia can be diagnosed if 1 of the following major criteria or >=3 of the secondary criteria are met. (1) Main criteria: 1) Mechanical ventilation is required for endotracheal intubation; 2) Vasoactive drugs are still needed after active fluid resuscitation in septic shock; (2) Secondary criteria: 1) Respiratory rate >=30 times/min; 2) PaO2/FiO2 250 mmHg or less; 3) Multiple lobar infiltration; 4) Disturbance of consciousness and (or) disorientation; 5) Blood urea nitrogen >=20 mg/dL; 6) Leukopenia (WBC<100x10^9/L); 7) Thrombocytopenia (PLT<100x10^9/L); 8) Hypothermia (central temperature <36 degree C); 9) Hypotension requires fluid resuscitation.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with severe autoimmune diseases, long-term use of corticosteroids, use of immunosuppressive drugs; 2. Patients with viral or fungal pneumonia confirmed by laboratory evidence; 3. Patients with infection of other sites, which affects the judgment of treatment effect of pneumonia; 4. Patients hospitalized for less than 7 days after diagnosis.
