Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with sepsis/septic shock as defined in the SEPSIS-3 guidelines in 2016; 2. Diagnosis of sepsis/septic shock within 24 hours of admission; 3. Aged over 18 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Any history of ischemic heart disease at any time in the past; 2. Previous history of chronic heart failure, moderate/severe valvular heart disease, primary pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary heart disease, uremia, long-term dialysis, and asthma; 3. Previous valve replacement, coronary artery bypass, coronary artery stent implantation, and thoracic surgery; 4. Transmitted patients diagnosed with sepsis before admission and treated in another hospital for more than 48 hours; 5. Poor image quality of echocardiography; 6. Patients or their relatives refuse to sign the informed consent form.
