Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants should have a diagnosis of knee OA based on clinical and radiographic criteria (Kellgren-Lawrence grade >=2) as defined by the American Rheumatology College; moderate-to-severe knee pain for at least 3 months, defined as a score of >=4 (on a 0–10 numerical rating scale) in response to the question What is the average level of your left/right knee pain in the past 3 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include participants with decompensated organic and psychiatric diseases, and with comorbidity or lifestyle factors precluding participation in the study.
