Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. The results showed that the patients were in accordance with the criteria of classification and diagnosis of mental disorders in China, version 3 (CCMD-3) "severe depression without psychosis symptoms"; 2. Over 18 years old and under 65 years old; 3. Hamilton Depression Scale score of 24 items (hamd-24) was more than 20 points; 4. The efficacy was not good after sufficient foot therapy of antidepressants with two or more different chemical structures.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: No history of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, any other psychotic disorder, or a current major depressive episode that included psychotic features; no history of rapid-cycling bipolar disorder; and no previous use of VNS.
