Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Admission criteria for DEE group: the following conditions should be met 1. Clinically frequent seizures and/or marked epileptic-like discharges on electroencephalography; 2. Progressive neuropsychiatric dysfunction or degeneration, such as cognitive, language, sensory, motor, and behavioral problems; 3. Even if seizures can be controlled, their encephalopathy can not be completely recovered, and may even continue to worsen with age; 4. Age range 0-2 years. Inclusion criteria for the control group: The following conditions should be met 1. Sex and age matched children; 2. The diagnosis of viral encephalitis was clinically made, and the prognosis was supported by improved correlative examination and clinical observation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for developmental epileptic encephalopathy group 1. No other infections, immune diseases, inflammatory diseases, such as encephalitis, demyelinating diseases, metabolic diseases; 2. No antibiotics have been taken in recent 2 weeks, and no probiotics have been taken for a long time. Exclusion criteria for the control group 1. Previous history of convulsions or no more than one seizure; 2. No chronic infection, immune, inflammatory diseases, such as demyelinating disease, metabolic disease; 3. No antibiotics have been taken in recent 2 weeks, and no probiotics have been taken for a long time.
