Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Aged >= 18 years (2) undergoing elective gastric, esophageal or colorectal cancer surgery for the first time with clear surgical indications.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Unable to be measured for muscle strength due to physical deformity; (2) have severe cardiopulmonary complications; (3) have current psychiatric illness; (4) receive palliative surgery; (5) experienced > 5% weight loss in the previous 6 months or 2%–5% weight loss with either a BMI of < 20 kg/m2; (6) received tube feed before; (7) receive preoperative radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy.
