Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Inclusion criteria for cirrhosis patients: 1) Inpatients with cirrhosis in department of Infectious Disease or Gastroenterology; 2) Aged 40-85 years, regardless of sex; 3) Be able to complete MMSE, and MMSE score is >= 17 for illiteracy, >= for 20 for primary school educated, and =24 for middle school educated and above; 4) Willing to join and provide informed consent. (2) Inclusion criteria for controls: 1) Inpatients with headache or dizziness in Department of Neurology; 2) Without history of cirrhosis, and their liver function is normal; 3) Be able to complete MMSE, and MMSE score is >= 17 for illiteracy, >= for 20 for primary school educated, and =24 for middle school educated and above; 4) Willing to join and provide informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Requires surgery, or interventional treatment, or peritoneal puncture drainage or ascites concentration and reinfusion; 2) Had severe cardiac, pulmonary, kidney diseases or other systemic diseases; 3) Had any kind of malignant tumors; 4) Experienced medical conditions that could lead to cognitive impairment, e.g., symptomatic stroke, central nervous system infection, epilepsy, brain trauma, Parkinson's disease, optic neuromyelitis, congenital mental retardation; 5) Suffered from psychosis, e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, severe depression or delirium.
