Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Aged over 60 years; (2) Living in one of four nursing homes included in this study; (3) Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score > 10.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other cognitive disorders; (2) Bedridden or not ambulatory due to a recent surgery; (3) Within the acute period of major diseases such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, and digestive system diseases, and cancer; (4) Suffering from depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other mental diseases; (5) Currently taking antidepressants and/or psychotropic drugs; (6) Slated to move out of the nursing home in the upcoming weeks; (7) Currently participating in other interventional research.
