Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) undiagnostic patients with imaging evidence of pleural effusion; 2) specific diagnosis could not be determined by cytologic examination; 3) pleural thickness <=5mm; 4)willingness to participate in the study and subscribe written consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) presence of any contraindication for percutaneous pleural needle biopsy or flexible thoracoscopy; 2) presence of coagulation disorders; 3) clear evidence of pleural transudate; 4) Aged 85 years old.
