Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 1 years old to 6 years old at low risk of complications who were receiving mechanical ventilation during general anaesthesia (< 2 hours) for nonabdominal surgery were included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status higher than 2, preoperative SPO2 lower than 96%, respiratory infection within 2 weeks, pulmonary co-morbidity, preoperative anaemia, abdominal and chest surgery, emergency surgery, preoperative lung ultrasonography abnormality, overweight or obesity, or participating in other trials, were excluded.
