Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. had an indwelling urinary catheter (with or without urine leakage) for more than 3 months; 2. were receiving home care; 3. had a stable disease condition and stable vital signs; 4. had understanding and supportive family members who were able to cooperate with the study investigators and carry out the assigned tasks effectively; 5. had sufficient financial support.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) had severe disease; 2) had severe hyperplasia of the prostate (grade III); 3) had family members who were unable to communicate well (including apathy toward the patient) or provide care to the patient in accordance with the doctors instructions (for example, rotating the catheter, not opening the catheter on time, not dealing with a twisted catheter in a timely manner, and showing no improvement in technique after repeated communication); 4) were catheterized for less than one month (the follow-up period) due to urinary tract infection or any other reason; 5) received another treatment during the study period; or 6) were lost to follow-up.
