18 Years to 96 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) acute ischemic stroke diagnosed on admission according to the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria; (2) aged >= 18 years; and (3) time from onset to admission <= 3 days.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA); (2) prophylactic antibiotics therapy before stroke or during hospitalization; (3) suffering from infectious or immunologic disease before stroke, or receiving immunoglobulin therapies or immunosuppressive medications; (4) statin treatment during non-acute phase (prior to stroke onset or at a later time point during the hospital stays); (5) pregnancy; and (6) other post-stroke infections (non-SAP).
