Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) Diagnosis of knee OA, mainly affecting the medial tibiofemoral compartment, staged by Kellgren-Lawrence at grades 2 to 3; (2) Aged between 40-75 years; (3) Presence of pain on walking on the medial tibiofemoral compartment, aching stiffness, or swelling in or around a knee with OA for most days of the previous two months; (4) Visual analog severity score of medial knee joint pain greater than four points over ten(ten means severe pain);(5) Availability to attend the hospital during the treatment and follow-up examinations; (6) Informed consent could be obtained.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Combined with knee pain due to inflammatory arthritis, osteonecrosis, gout, radiating pain from spine diseases; (2) Previous intra-articular knee surgery history. Intra-articular injections of knee joints during the last two months before treatment; (3) Previous shockwave therapy at knee joints; (4) Recent hospitalization for cardiovascular events or mental health conditions; (5) Knee MR imaging could not be performed; (6) Contraindications for rESWT, including malignancy round knee joints, severe coagulation disturbance.
