Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (a) Adult men and women (aged 18 -80 years) ; (b) patients were diagnosed with T2DM; (c) evaluated with diabetes distress score >= 3 based on the Diabetes Distress Scale-17 (DDS-17); (d) has ability to access to a smartphone; (e) have sufficient reading and comprehension skills of the Mandarin Chinese assessed by research assistant and (f) has a mean length of hospital stay of eight days or above (estimated by the chief physician).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (a) A history of mental health disorders (e.g. history of depression); (b) being experiencing a feeling of pain (such as cancer, cardiovascular disease), and complication including neuropathy (experiencing chronic pain), kidney conditions, diabetic foot etc.; (c) who had participated in any mindfulness intervention, cognitive therapy or structured psychosocial intervention 6 months prior to recruitment.
