Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients met the diagnostic criteria for NC based on the third edition of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders criteria1 4, with irrepressible sleepiness for more than three months associated with cataplexy and abnormal MSLT (mean sleep latency <=8 minutes and more than two sleep onset REM periods ) according to standard techniques; 2. Aged 4 to 18 years; 3. patients were drug naive before enrolling this study; 4. Signed and dated informed consent. Willingness and ability to comply with scheduled visits, treatment plans, laboratory tests, and other study procedure by patients with parent(s).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. comorbidity with other disorders that could affect BP or HR such as renal, cardiac, endocrine diseases; 2. taking any medicine that affects BP or sleep; 3. the presence of neurological psychiatric disorders; 4. have any behavior that may influence BP such as smoking, alcohol consumption; 5. contraindication for methylphenidate medication (e.g. glaucoma).
