Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. aged 18–25 years; 2. mild-to-moderate skeletal Class II Division 1, ANB 5 to 8 degree; 3. maxillary crowding <=4 mm, requiring extraction of maxillary first premolars; 4. no root resorption of maxillary anterior teeth; 5. no history of trauma and with intact maxillary anterior crowns; 6. no missing, supernumerary, or impacted teeth (except third molars), and no previous orthodontic treatment or maxillofacial surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. long-term use of bisphosphonates or NSAIDS, which can slow bone metabolism; 2. bad periodontal health and oral hygiene.
