Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The subjects were recruited from the gastroenterology clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. Subjects were IBS patients ages 18 to 65 meeting the diagnostic criteria of Rome III. In addition, each subject was required to agree to strictly follow the food elimination diet, keep an accurate diet diary, complete the checklist of gastrointestinal symptoms(basic symptom indexes) through telephone reporting, and accept follow-up by telephone once weekly during the 12-week intervention period.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: A subject was excluded if that subject was unable follow the Chinese traditional dietary restriction, if the subject reported an IgE-mediated food allergy or suffered from gastrointestinal organic diseases (gastrointestinal surgery, tumor, liver and pancreatic diseases, etc.), if the subject, based on past experience, already avoided eating one or more of the 14 foods tested with the IgG antibody test, or if the subject avoided eating one of more of the traditional Chinese diet restriction foods (i.e., uncooked, cold, spicy, greasy and alcoholic foods or alcoholic beverages).
