Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Aged 60–75 years; American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade two or three; diagnosed ascarotid artery stenosis using magnetic resonance imaging/angiography and three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) angiography; having general anesthesia by tracheal intubation during surgery; transferred to the neurosurgical ICU; using a programmed syringe pump 48 hr after surgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Ruptured cerebral aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation; total intravenous anesthesia during surgery; admission planned to general wards; chronic renal failure (glomerular filtration rate 30 kg/m2); to drugs used in the study; operative time 3 hours.
