Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eligible participants were outpatients who had been diagnosed with rectal cancer according to the pathology results and have finished the sphincter-saving surgery. The distance between the anal margin and the lower margin of the tumor less than 20cm. The participants did not have any hearing or cognitive disorders and were able to communicate with others smoothly.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who had suffered from complications(anastomotic fistula, recto-vaginal fistula, etc.) after surgery and who had suffered from intestinal problems such as chronic constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, or irritable bowel syndrome before the surgery were excluded. Patients who had always been taking medicines affecting bowel function and whose medical records were not complete were also excluded.
