Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients with LUTS were evaluated at the urology outpatient department according to a standard algorithm.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria included patients with prostate cancer, aged < 40 years, with a history of receiving 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor therapy or phytotherapy, and with a history of any invasive therapy for BPH, including transurethral prostatectomy or laser prostatectomy. The patients with a history of cytoscopy, colonoscopy, TRUS, prostate biopsy, acute prostatitis, and urinary retention during the previous month were also omitted. Patients with urinary symptoms clearly related to other conditions, such as overt neurologic disorders (eg, Parkinson disease, spinal trauma, diabetic cystopathy) or bladder tumor, were also excluded. Patients who refused to undergo laboratory or radiologic tests were also not included.
