Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Children aged 38.5 degree C, axillary temperature >38 degree C), headache and one of the following symptoms: consciousness change, frequent projectile vomiting, convulsions, neck rigidity, increased tension of fontanelle, other signs of meningitis; (2) CSF has one of the following conditions: (1) appearance of turbidity; (2) white blood cell >100/ul; (3) white blood cell 10-100/ul, with the protein increased (>1000mg/L) or glucose decreased (<2.2mmol/L, or 40mg/dl). Cases of bacterial pathogens identified by CSF culture, Gram staining, or antigen testing, or laboratory pathogen confirmation obtained from the blood of children suspected of bacterial meningitis clinical syndrome; Laboratory diagnosis: Identification of bacterial pathogens by CSF culture and PCR testing, or laboratory-confirmed pathogens from the blood of children with suspected bacterial meningitis clinical syndrome; Laboratory diagnostic criteria: one of the following: (1) culture: sterile body fluids, such as CSF or blood; (2) antigen detection: CSF detection of bacterial antigen, latex agglutination or reverse immunoelectrophoresis; (3) smear method: cerebrospinal fluid gram staining smear; (4) nucleic acid PCR: detection of cerebrospinal fluid pathogen nucleic acid PCR.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Incomplete medical data or no informed consent from family members in prospective study; 2. Intracranial infection caused by non bacterial pathogens, including viral encephalitis, fungal encephalitis, tuberculous meningitis, mycoplasma, Rickettsia and parasites; 3. Immune encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, genetic metabolic brain injury, brain tumor, space occupying and trauma without intracranial bacterial infection.
