Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adults are eligible for enrollment if they are admitted to a study hospital on the basis of a clinical assessment by the treating clinician; 2. Meeting the criteria of Severe CAP which was defined by The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA)/American Thoracic Society (ATS) within 48 hours before or after admission; 3. Receiving bronchoscopy to obtain BALF; 4. Both mNGS and conventional methods for pathogen detection are carried out.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients are excluded if they have been hospitalized recently (<28 days for immunocompetent patients and <90 days for immunosuppressed patients), are functionally dependent nursing home residents, or have a clear alternative diagnosis.
