Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: To be eligible for enrollment, patients must be adults (aged over 18 years) who met the following characteristics: diagnosed with hypertension and currently using antihypertensive medications; BP < 220/120 mm Hg at enrollment; with health records at studying CHCs. Participants also had to have a mobile phone capable of receiving texts or had access to a mobile phone and were able to read and complete informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: We excluded patients who had dementia, depression, serious heart, lung, and kidney diseases; were pregnant or in their lactation period.
