Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Enrolment was limited to inpatient newborns with a gestational age of more than 37 weeks. All the participating newborns were 1 to 12 days after birth, and they had not received conventional phototherapy before the skin images were taken. Each image in the dataset was labelled with the TSB level and the age in hours.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Neonates who received phototherapy were ineligible, and the images with missing TSB data were removed from the database of newborn skin images. Our system computed the proportion of the skin region in the original image and obtained the expected colour range by calculating the standard deviation of the average pixel intensity colour values. If the proportion was less than a certain threshold, the image was removed. The colour values falling outside of the expected colour range in the skin region were excluded.
