Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Aged 60 years and above, lives in the research site village; (2) Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 (PHQ-9) scores 10 or above.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Patient in the severe mental disorders management program; (2) Current antidepressant pharmacotherapy, or low adherence to this pharmacotherapy, or current psychotherapy provided by other health care providers; (3) Current suicide ideation; (4) Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) scores 17 or below; (5) Has other physical conditions that are unsuitable for psychotherapy, e.g. hearing impairment, speech or language impairments, tumors, bed-ridden.
