Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients were eligible for the present study if they suffered an acute ischemic stroke 3 months before. PSCI and PSD diagnose were based on a baseline clinical assessment by a senior neuroradiologist. PSCI patients included were MoCA scores < 26 for patients with education level of junior school or above, < 21 for education level of primary school, and < 15 for illiteracy, while other patients who did not meet the conditions were as non-PSCI patients.Post-stroke depression was diagnosed according to the ICD-10.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: patients with previous cognitive dysfunction, recent (within 3 months) use of any antibiotics or probiotics, extreme dieting, gastrointestinal surgery, infection, severe aphasia, schizophrenia, serious life-threatening illnesses, severe hearing, visual or motor impairment.
