Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All inpatients (aged 18-80) at the Department of Gastroenterology in Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from October 2017 to March 2018 who were scheduled for inpatient colonoscopy and had convenient access to a mobile phone were enrolled.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. previous colorectal surgery; 2. intolerance of or sensitivity to polyethylene glycol (PEG), which led to a non-PEG-based bowel preparation; 3. inability to provide informed consent; 4. lack of access to a mobile phone; 5. severe constipation (<3 bowel movements per week); 6. drug use (e.g., constipation drugs, laxatives, or anti-diarrhoeal agents).
