Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Type 2 diabetes for at least 5 years; 2. Age: Male>=50 and Female>=55 years, or either gender>=40 years with es(filling one of the following): 1). History of myocardial infarction >3 months prior to informed consent; 2). Evidence of coronary artery disease i.e. in >=2 major coronary arteries or the left main coronary artery with significant stenosis ( >=50% luminal narrowing during angiography); 3). Previous revascularization (PTCA or CABG>3 months prior to consent).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. MI or CVA in the last 3 months (temporary exclusion, recruitment may be postponed); 2. Any malignancy during the last 5 years (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer); 3. End stage renal disease; 4. Treatment with any antioxidant supplements (Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, glutathione, lipoic acid, Coenzyme Q, Selenium, beta carotene, multivitamin) in the last year or treatment with herbal supplements/ herbal Chinese medicines in the last 3 months, or unwilling to avoid these supplements; 5. Known allergy to vitamin E.
