Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Stay in ICU and diagnose septic shock within 24 hours; The diagnostic criteria for septic shock are as follows: (1) Hypotension: systolic blood pressure is lower than 90 mmHg, or mean arterial pressure is lower than 60 mmHg, or orthostatic hypotension exists, or pulse pressure is lower than 13% than usual; (2) Invasive or non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring indicates decreased filling pressure or cardiac index; (3) There are two manifestations of hypoperfusion in the following tissues: GSC score less than 12 points; skin spots; urine volume less than 25 ml/h; capillary recharge time more than 3 seconds; arterial blood lactic acid higher than 2 mmol/L; blood urea nitrogen higher than 56 mg/dl; 2. The ventilator-assisted ventilation was intubated through oral trachea for 12 hours, and the estimated ventilation time was more than 24 hours; 3. Analgesia and sedation are needed; 4. The patient or family member has signed the informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Pregnant or lactating women; 2. Patients younger than 18 years old; 3. Patients with heart rate lower than 55 bpm; 4. High atrioventricular block without cardiac pacemaker; 5. Patients diagnosed as acute liver failure; Diagnostic criteria for acute liver failure: acute onset, hepatic encephalopathy of degree II or above within two weeks (classified according to degree IV) with the following manifestations: (1) extreme fatigue, severe gastrointestinal symptoms such as anorexia, abdominal distention, nausea and vomiting; (2) short-term jaundice. Sexual deepening; (3) Excluding other causes of bleeding tendency is obvious, plasma prothrombin activity < 40% (or INR < 1.5); and (4) progressive reduction of the liver. (Chinese Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, 2012; Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Liver Failure); 6. Patients diagnosed as cerebrovascular accident; 7. Patients diagnosed with dementia; 8. hospice care patients.
