Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1) prolonged mechanical ventilation (which was defined as a requirement over 72 hours of mechanical ventilation ) was required; 2) they had stable oxygen saturation, fraction of inspired oxygen = 55%, and positive end expiratory pressure = 8 cm H2O; 3) they received dopamine at a dose of 75 mmHg and urine output >1 mL/kg/hour; 5) good postoperative wound healing was obtained; 6) there was no history of chronic mental illness; and they had normal cognitive function. 7) there was no history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) had no ability to do physical actions such as head up, sitting down, standing up and walking; 2) long-term ventilator before admission 3) had neurological disorders affecting the muscles; 4) had irreversible disorders (which resulted in 6-month mortality of more than 50%); 5) unsound limbs; 6) application of glucocorticoids (prednisone >20 mg/d) for at least 20 days prior to admission 7) were admitted to ICU after cardiopulmonary resuscitation 8) received radiotherapy or chemotherapy within the previous 6 months; 9) had acute myocarditis, peripheral vascular thrombosis/embolism, cerebrovascular accident; 10) unstable fractures, such as cervical spine fractures.
