Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All the adults patients(age from 18 to 80) with ability to consent and volunteer to participate in this study, who were undergoing elective open or laparoscopic gastrointestinal operations for malignant or benign pathology will be included. The surgery must include gastrointestinal resection and anastomosis.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Persons with mental disorders or unable to cooperate 2. Pregnant or lactating women 3. Diabetes or hyperglycemia(All the patients will check the blood glucose levels) 4. Bowel obstruction 5. Active gastric ulcer confirmed by electronic gastroscopy 6. Patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA) class IV or V diseases 7. Has a history of adverse reactions to dexamethasone or who were taking any systemic steroids or have taken steroidal in the last 3 months
