Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1) Subjects sign the written informed consent and date; 2) Aged 50-75 years male and female (faria-almeida et al. 2006, Sabharwal et al. 2019); 3) Subjects with at least 15 teeth (excluding the third molar); 4) With clinical diagnosis of type II diabetes at least one year, with HbA1c level between 6.5% and 8.5% (Vergnes et al. 2018 a); 5) The diabetes treatment regimen remained the same over the past 3 months (no changes in dose, formulation or route of administration) (Vergnes et al. 2018a); 6) With diagnosis of moderate or severe periodontitis, at least two teeth in each quadrant with at least one site with PD=5 mm and CAL=3mm (Shi et al. 2018); 7) Be able and willing to abide by the research process required by the research protocol.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) Patients with serious systemic disease other than type II diabetes (nephropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, liver dysfunction, stroke or history of stroke) (Quintero et al. 2018); 2) Patients with severe complications of diabetes: acute cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease (ulcer, gangrene, etc.) and neurological disease within 12 months (Duarte and Feres 2018); 3) Patients with other active oral infection diseases such as periapical abscess, periodontal abscess (Chen et al. 2012); 4) Those who received periodontal treatment within 6 months prior to the trial (Abreu et al. 2016); 5) Systemic antibiotics were taken within 4 weeks before the trial.
