18 Years to 78 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy individuals: 1. use of drugs within the last 2 weeks that may affect gastrointestinal secretions or motor functions; 2. women of child-bearing age should be enrolled at mid-cycle of menstruation; 3. typical local eating habits (i.e., rice- and wheat-based diets for Hubei and Henan province residents, respectively); 4. stool frequency: at least 3 times a week and at least 3 times a day; Constipated patients: Meet the ROME III diagnostic criteria.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Healthy controls: (1) pregnant or lactating women or those women who planned to become pregnant; (2) refusal to provide informed consent; (3) With history of abdominal or pelvic surgery (except for appendectomy); (4) Withg history of chronic digestive diseases; (5) With digestive system symptoms in the last three months; (6) With serious organic disease,including hypertension, diabetes, renal insufficiency, thyroid disease or connective tissue disease et al. Constipated patients: (1) history of abdominal or pelvic surgery (except for appendectomy); (2) history of organic lesions in the digestive tract; (3) serious organic disease, including hypertension, diabetes, renal insufficiency, thyroid disease, or connective tissue disease; (4) pregnancy or lactation or women who planned to become pregnant; (5) refusal to provide informed consent.
